With the end of January almost here and the debut of the Peter Pilotto for Target collection on the near horizon, I think it'll be fun to compare recent Peter Pilotto runway looks to the Target capsule collection. While the fabrics, fit, prices, and technical skills that go into making the Peter Pilotto main line will vary vastly from the Target line, there are some striking similarities. Let's see how eleven looks from the Target collection stack up against recent runway looks.
Colorblocking in cool blue tones as seen in the resort 2014 collection is echoed in this cardigan from the Target collection. The effect is both chic and sporty, whether on a draped dress or more casual lightweight sweater.
These boldly printed wide leg pants from resort 2013 resemble the pants from Target's collection. Both prints feature a print with a slimming vertical stripe effect. Dress them up with heels and a printed blazer (like this one), or dress them down for summer with slip-on sneakers (like these cute ones) and a bikini top.
The strapless dress with contrasting panels and side pockets from resort 2014 isn't unlike this festive iris print frock from the Target line. Both have flattering A-line shapes, and I'm hoping the Target dress has pockets, too.
Bodycon tops tucked into pencil skirts is the name of the game for both spring 2012 and Target's lookbook. Trademark Peter Pilotto details include contrasting panels, print mixing, and high energy kaleidoscopic prints in form-fitting silhouettes.
This sleeveless dress with a full skirt from spring 2012 may have inspired the Target dress, which has a rash guard layered underneath. I spy piping, pleats, and plenty of blue in both dresses.
If florals aren't your thing, perhaps geometrics are. This resort 2014 dress with its asymmetric hemline looks strikingly similar to the Target crop top. Both prints feature black sleeves and a high contrast palette in black and white.
Ahhhh, yellow! Such a vibrant, cheerful color. This neon yellow dress from resort 2103 has a full skirt, contrasting sleeves, and defined waist. Ditto for Target's version, which merges three color-coordinated prints into one sporty yet feminine piece.
Structured shorts from the resort 2014 collection remind me of the more laid-back Target version. Both pairs have black panels to offset the blue and white print. I'm also hoping the Target shorts have pockets.
The tropical blooms on these spring 2012 trousers looks a lot like the pretty floral print on the dress and peplum top from the Target lookbook. Since blue is my favorite color and I find florals uplifting, it's the perfect way for me to usher in spring.
The slightly psychedelic iris print on these trousers from spring 2012 clearly inspired this romper in the Target line. Just as the print of the pants shifts from top to bottom in color and scale, so does the print of the romper.
Both of the looks above include printed tops tucked into mixed print skirts with printed shoes in black and white. Note how both skirts feature a diagonal seam, creating strong energy and vertical lines for a confident and modern vibe.
