Thakoon for Kohl's Lookbook vs. Thakoon Runway

The Thakoon for Kohl's collection launches on September 10 (shop the pre-sale right now or read my Thakoon for Kohl's review), and I've been diligently studying the lookbook. Whenever a designer's capsule collection lookbook is released, I enjoy looking through the designer's archive of runway photos in order to draw comparisons between their mass market collections and their high end creations. I usually discover quite a few similarities!

The Thakoon for DesigNation at Kohl's line is inspired by London, a city that's near and dear to my heart. It features three-dimensional knits perfect for layering, and a mash-up of English rose prints, as well as checks and plaids. It's a feminine tomboy vibe with relaxed silhouettes and a British twist. (I'm thinking some print mixing for myself will be in order.)

Let's see just how similar the #ThakoonforKohls collection is to Thakoon's recent runway looks.

In both of the looks above, charcoal knit pullovers with side vents are layered over slim black pants for a modern look.

Mock neck capelets with contrasting trims add polish and sophistication to A-line shapes.

Both of the looks above feature printed blouses layered under sweaters and styled with A-line skirts.

Cozy patch pockets in charcoal grey knits offer warmth for the hands. The garment on the left is actually a hooded scarf, which I'm adding to my wish list.

Checked coats with front zips and sporty split side seams inject a tomboy element to both of these looks.

Above, oversized vests (shop the Kohl's plaid version here) in rugged fabrics are styled with sleek black separates.

Cable knit sweaters and mock layers with A-line skirts give both of these looks a mix of masculine and feminine elements.

2016 Denim Fashion Trend Forecast

I'm just back from Magic Market Week, where I visited the Sourcing area for an in-depth look at the Aztex Denim trend galleries. This is where fabric mills, fiber companies, and garment manufacturers present the newest trends and innovations in denim. As we head into the last quarter of 2015, denim is playing an increasingly more important role in the fashion scene. In fact, there's been a recent spike in the denim market. I witnessed this firsthand as I walked the trade show floor, where I spotted array of denim on display: culottes, button-front tops, frayed crop tops, A-line skirts, pinafore dresses, 1970s flared jeans, utilitarian handbags, and just about everything imaginable that could be made of denim.

Nine Key Fashion Trends for Fall 2015

A few weeks ago I shared my top fall 2015 back-to-school fashion trends on The Key To Chic. Although it's not yet Labor Day and summer is still officially in full swing, I've got autumn trends on my mind. Every store I walk into is stocked with plaid tops, boots, flared denim, colorful cardigans, and other great fall updates.

I'm fresh from a few days at the fashion trade shows (a trend forecast for fall/winter '16/'17 is coming soon to The Key To Chic), and all the fashion forecasters can talk about are a few new-ish silhouettes including: duster coats, turtlenecks, A-line skirts, flared pants, and block-heeled boots. I'm inspired by many of the things I photographed at the shows, and I'm ready to update my wardrobe with some key items for the new season. Think '60s meets '70s with a nod to menswear and an emphasis on fabrics such as suede, brushed wool, mohair, silk, and denim. Oh, and shoes! Since I'm a shoe addict, I'm enamored with the mod '60s-inspired block-heeled bootie; it's my must-have shoe for fall, and it pairs perfectly with another great piece that I've seen just about everywhere - the button-front A-line mini.

Below are nine of my top fall updates, all under $225.

Fall 2015 Fashion Trends

Skinny silk scarf, $29.90
Illesteva circular mirrored sunglasses, $177
Topshop turtleneck top, $52
Duster coat, $85
Madewell lariat necklace, $35
A-line denim mini skirt, $52
Block-heeled leather ankle boots, $225
Fringe bag, $24
Paige flared jeans, $189
