Mixing It Up With Unexpected Print Pairings

Lately I've been intrigued by the mixing of patterns that I normally wouldn't pair together. For example, stripes with florals, plaids with animal prints, florals with animal prints, argygles with florals, and so on. If the color families and the proportions of the prints are in harmony, the possibilities are endless. My best tip for pulling this look off is to keep the rest of the ensemble neutral in order not to detract from the impact of the mixed prints. Below, my cheap chic version of "pattern play" involves a striped top that picks up on the bold blue hues of a watercolor floral skirt.
