Neal Barr: An Eye for Fashion

Currently on display at the Museum of Ventura County is an exhibition entitled Neal Barr: An Eye for Fashion. To be quite honest, I was disappointed to see that the exhibition was located in the small hallway near the museum's restrooms. Furthermore, the presence of large windows in the hallway made it difficult for me to get good photographs of Neal Barr's work because of the glare. Nevertheless, I highly recommend taking a look at the exhibit, as it presents an interesting look into fashion and celebrity photographs of the 1960s and 1970s. Here is a little background about Neal Barr, courtesy of the museum:

Neal Barr was the lead photographer for Harper's Bazaar from 1968 to 1971. He was born in Ventura, CA in 1932 and is the first professional photographer in his family. After graduating from the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara in 1958, he moved to New York City and assisted several fashion photographers while working as a newspaper photographer. He opened his own studio in Manhattan in 1962, where he specialized in fashion assignments. The Museum of Ventura County has a collection of over 150 of Barr's photographs. Most of the photographs in the exhibit are small format photos from Barr's Mini Gallery Series. They represent some of the best fashion photography of the 1960s and 1970s.
